The chip has a unique number that corresponds to your contact details held on a national data base. The number is read by a special microchip reader and registration is for life.

When can my dog have a microchip?

Puppies can be microchipped from as young as 6 weeks of age, however it is the size of the puppy that determines how safe it is to implant a microchip.  In NSW all puppies must be microchipped before they are sold or before they are 12 weeks of age.
